Book Club Kits

Each kit includes:

  • 10 copies of a book
  • A readers’ guide including author bio, book reviews and discussion questions
  • Sign-out sheet to track copies of the book
How does it work?

Each kit is checked out to one PINES library cardholder, usually the book club organizer. The checkout period for each kit is six weeks. Two kits may be checked out at one time. Kits must be returned complete, meaning that all 10 copies of the book and included materials must be returned together in the bag in person to the Griffin-Spalding County Library circulation desk. please do not put kits in the book drop. Kits cannot be renewed but can be placed on hold by library staff. The cardholder who borrows the kit is financially responsible for missing or damaged items in the kit.

For your convenience, most Book Club Kit titles are also available in additional formats, including eBook, audiobook and book on CD.
FAQ
Who can use a Book Club Kit?
Any patron with a valid PINES card and member of a registered book group may check out a kit.  One person in the group checks out the kit and distributes the books to their members.
I have a Book Club in a Bag Kit checked out already and I want to bring a new Kit to my next book club meeting, can I check out two Kits at once?
Yes, there is a checkout limit of two Book Club in a Bag Kits per library card.  This will help club members coordinate the distribution of their next book club title.
Can a Book Club Kit be placed on hold?
No, Kits cannot be reserved through the library catalog.  The Kits are listed in the PINES catalog for convenience.  To facilitate book club usage and scheduling, library users with a valid library card can reserve a Kit by calling the Information Desk at 770-412-4770.
Can my book club members return their own books to the Library?
No, the Book Club in a Bag Kit must be returned with all copies of the book at the same time.
What is the overdue charge if I do not  return my Book Club Kit on time?
An overdue fine per day will be charged if the Kit is returned late.
What if a group member loses their copy of the book?
The cardholder who checked out the Kit will be responsible for any lost or damaged books. A replacement fee for each missing book will be charged to their library account.

How should I return the Kit?
Return the Book Club Kit to the Griffin-Spalding County Library as a complete set.  Do not return books individually.  The Kit is checked out to one cardholder as one item rather than multiple books. Please return to the Circulation desk during regular library hours. Do not put the Kit in the book drop.

Apply for a Library Card

PINES library cards are free for all Georgia residents. You must present a valid photo ID showing current Georgia address. A parent or legal guardian must be present to register a child under 18.  There is no longer a charge to replace a lost or stolen card.  A card is not required to attend programs or visit the library, however, you must have your card or show your card on the PINES app to check out items.

An e-card provides immediate access to your library’s online resources, including our digital library and learning resources. If you’d like to upgrade to a full PINES card in order to check out library books and other materials, please bring your e-card account number and your photo ID to any PINES library to complete the registration process.
